The Jasmin, established by the Singh-Sandhu family in January 1980 began its story as a small unlicensed restaurant.

It wasn’t long before word spread about the culinary prowess of Mrs Singh. Her commitment to her family recipes, her integrity with produce and her masterful art of blending spices attracted curry addicts from everywhere.

As the clientele grew, it was necessary to expand and obtain a liquor license. An elegant dining room was created in 1982 with mahogany tables and chairs and good friend Tom Gleghorn’s magnificent works of art brought the room to life. A private dining room was added about ten years ago.

The popularity and fame of the Jasmin continued to grow over the years. It was soon an essential stop for visiting cricket teams resulting in a fine collection of signed cricket bats. Visiting musicians and bands like Elton John, The Prodigy, and DJ Carl Cox all left very satisfied after a big dinner at Jasmin. So was Billy Connolly who visited on many occasions. Prime Ministers, Premiers and other Politicians visited too.

Even after 37 years our commitment to quality food and service has only strengthened our position as one of Adelaide’s leading restaurants.

I would recommend that every visitor to Adelaide go there.” He describes Anant Singh, the family matriarch in her 90s who works in the kitchen a day each week, as “the jewel in Adelaide’s crown”. “Where Mrs Singh is a genius is she doesn’t believe in change, she believes in refinement,” MPW said.
